The Fremont community holds events year ‘round, from festivals to Feast, parades, processions and parties, meetings and meet-ups, and gatherings galore.  Few Fremont events, however, link to main stream, traditional holidays, with the exception of Halloween.

We enjoy Halloween at the Center of the Universe, and this year the entire neighborhood can join in the diverse fun – and celebrate October 31st in any style.

For The Adults

Most of the celebrations, as with a majority of Fremont’s festivities, are aimed at an over 21-year-old audience.

On Thursday, October 30th, the Fremont Foundry, our newest party venue, will host The FrankenParty, with live music (by Rattletrap Ruckus,) dancing (with Bamboo Beats,) and eats and treats (by Ravishing Radish and Subzero Ice Cream,) and entertainment by the Seattle Sugarplum Elves and Mystic Mimi.  Produced by Blue Danube Productions, this pre-Halloween party (tickets cost $20) will be a spectacle to savor!

Also on Thursday, Nectar Lounge will host a Steam Funk Halloween Party featuring music by Chicago Afrobeat Project, Cascadia ’10, and The Braxmatics.

The Fremont bars have organized a community-wide costume contest for Oct 31, 2014.
The Fremont bars have organized a community-wide costume contest for Oct 31, 2014.

On Friday, Halloween Day, six Fremont bars (Red Door, The Ballroom, 9 Million In Unmarked Bills, LTD Bar + Grill, Norm’s Eatery & Alehouse, and Red Star Taco Bar) plus the Fremont Arts Council (FAC) will hold a community wide costume contest – with the winners at each location going to the Red Door at 1a to compete for $500 for best costume overall.  With parties going on at all six bars, plus the FAC Troll-A-Go-Go starting at 8:30p at the Doric Lodge #92 (free entry,) it promises to be a night of celebrations.

For costumes, and celebrating, done seriously, and a party of larger dimensions, check out the very sophisticated Bonza Bash Masquerade happening at Fremont Studios.  This elegant event will sell out.  Purchase tickets, for $25 each, on-line through Shindigg.

On Saturday, November 1st, the gatherings continue – and start with a community wide clean-up at 10a that begins at the Fremont Troll.  That night, enjoy a Bollywood Dreams party at Nectar Lounge, with a Thriller dance party (a dance lesson take place at 10p,) costume contest and DJ Prashant and DJ UV.  Tickets cost $15 at the doors (which open at 8p,) with the first 100 ladies getting in for free (before 10p,) and advance tickets only $10, through Eventbrite.

For All Ages

Of course, Halloween also marks the Fremont Troll’s birthday, and for his 24th, the Fremont Arts Council has planned a creative performance of ‘The ODDyssey’ by Homer.  Troll-o-Ween will start, at 7p, at the Troll, and after a performance, attendees will haunt Fremont, encountering surprises along their way.  This free, all-ages event can be enjoyed by all with a strong spirit of fun – and costumes not made of sugar.  Rain is always a possibility.

For The Kids

Halloween offers adults some great escapes, but this holiday still reaps the grandest rewards for the chronologically immature among us.  Particularly with the 17th (or so) Annual Trick-or-Treat In Fremont from 3p – 6p.

All the kids need is:

  • to be a kid
  • to be accompanied by an adult
  • to be in costume (no masks, please)
  • to say ‘Trick-or-Treat’ at businesses that have posted one of the official-ish Trick-or-Treat In Fremont posters

For 2014, nearly 150 Fremont area businesses have joined in this annual treat give-away.  The generosity of restaurants, retailers, specialty service providers, assorted other for-profit and non-profit organizations is overwhelming impressive.

Fremont has built, through hard work and the sweat equity of possibly a million volunteers, a reputation as a place for fun, particularly for witches, goblins, zombies, super heroes, and the random bumblebee.

Have a great Halloween this year, whatever entertainment you choose, as you spend it at the Center of the Universe!
